Kerastase Elixir Ultime - 1.7 fl oz (50 ml) Value $22.40
I love hair oils and use them all the time! However, I was dismayed when I looked at the ingredient list for this product. The very first ingredient is cyclopentasiloxane, a silicone. I personally do not like silicones in my hair care products and have been eliminating silicones as well as sulfates and drying alcohols from my shampoos and conditioners. (A great list of hair care ingredients to look out for here).
Silicones can build up in your hair over time and weigh your hair down. As someone with very fine hair, the last thing I need is a product that will bring down my volume. But I tried using some of this product as a leave-in treatment for the sake of this review. I found the product was not moisturizing enough plus it left a slippery film over my hair which now feels like the texture of coated straw. Cheaper on Amazon.
Vasanti BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator - 20g Value $5.67
I'm not in love with the scent of this cleanser, it reminds me of cheap soap. It is a white opaque cleanser with small, fine crystals. Paraben and sulfate free. As well as 99% natural. I'll try this as my once a week exfoliator.
Marcelle BB Cream Golden Glow - .24 oz (7 ml) Value $4.05
This one seemed a little too dark for me looking at the color out of the bottle. When I rubbed it into my skin though, I could barely see the color. So it blended well, but I'm not sure it did anything to make my skin "glow".
LA FRESH Waterproof Makeup Remover - 2 wipes Value $1.11
Meh, I don't typically use makeup wipes. I'll just keep these in my bag in case of an emergency. Get these for cheaper and in a higher count on Amazon.
Deepa Gurnani Ivory Pearls - 1 hair tie Value $10
This was cute. Since I have long hair, I usually wear two hair ties to keep my ponytail in place because I have long hair. I think this would be good for the second, outer tie since it has the decoration. Pearls are one of my favorites! Get a 3 pack at Anthropologie.
Laura Geller Baked Color True Blush Bali - .06 oz (1.8 g) Value $7.62
The color I received (Bali) was okay. I would've preferred a paler pink or peach color since I have pale skin. I edited the picture above so the color of the blush matched more closely to the color in real life. I'm not that tanned. Haha. An alternative color at Nordstrom.
Overall - Value $50.85
The Birchbox subscription is $10 a month, so for about $50 worth of samples, that seems like good value. However, the most expensive item was the hair elixir which I didn't like. Also, the samples are supposed to be personalized, so I expected a better color match with the blush. I'd give this box a 2 out of 5 stars.
