Rose Branch

Class: Intro to Gouache Botanicals. Try Skillshare Premium free for 14 days! (Disclosure: I get one month premium if you sign up with this link.)

This class is about learning how to paint flat style gouache in Procreate. The first project was this rose branch. I love how simple this style is and how it’s all about layering and editing out details except for what helps define the object.

Cacti

Drawing inspiration from all the plants and cacti we have at the house. I’m loving this pastel color palette. It feels so fresh and light.

Palms: Seamless Pattern

Class: Drawing Seamless Patterns in Procreate (Disclosure: I get a free month of Skillshare if you sign up with this link.)

Tried again with another seamless pattern. I’ve got this idea for a decorative pillow with palms and a pink background I’m trying to create for my living room. Here’s another iteration using some of the same palms from the seamless pattern post.

Coral colorway.

Coral colorway.

I really struggled with this coral one at first adjusting the hue and color balance to get the colors where I wanted them to be - matching the feel of the other three - light, bright, and festive. Below is one of the previous iterations of the coral. It’s more brown toned and muddy looking.

Eventually I identified I needed to start over with a fresh duplicate of the original where the pattern and background color layer were separated. When I’d merged the pattern and background together into one layer (due to Procreate’s number of layer limits based on canvas size), I wasn’t able to get the colors I’d wanted when adjusting.

So, with the fresh file, I only adjusted the hue and color balance on the pattern, then recolored the background layer with a yellow from my palette. Finally!! It worked and I’m happy with the coral colorway. Thank goodness for non-destructive techniques, honestly saved my life so many times when working on this pattern.

This one came out darker and more muddy than I wanted. I adjusted the saturation and color balance to try and bring out more of the yellow and get rid of the brown yet here we are.

Shards 5

Honestly my favorite Shards piece thus far. Is it the colors? The larger spacing between the triangles? The reduced number of shapes? 🤔 🧐 What do you think? Let me know in the comments below ⬇️
