Blue and White Cup No. 02
A slightly different composition with the blue and white cup. I feel I usually put my still life objects in the center of the painting and wanted to try something different this time. How do you think it turned out compared to No. 01?
Blue and White Cup No. 01
I can’t believe it’s December already. The time flies by so quickly. This painting features a cup that my husband got me for one of our first Christmases together. I love the deep blue color and the simple geometric design.
Three Tomatoes No. 02
I keep forgetting about painting the planes and then the tomatoes come out too round and cartoony. I caught myself about halfway through this time though and attempted to course correct.
Random thoughts while painting this painting: there is a trope in a lot of the romantasy books I read, about how beings with long lives (gods, faeries, etc.) become progressively colder over time. When I was younger, I didn’t really understand why. And now, I feel I get it. Over time, life experiences can cause one to become more cynical and hardened. Interacting with young people, it seems they still have a joy - a brightness and hopefulness in their eyes. It feels fresh and at the same time jarring, as it is a reminder that once upon a time, I used to think and feel that way too.
And for those of you also in the US, Happy Thanksgiving weekend! Best wishes!
Three Tomatoes No. 01
Here are three tomatoes. I used the same color palette (perylene red, India yellow, transparent red oxide, viridian, yellow green, blue black, and titanium white) as Three Apples No. 01 and Three Apples No. 02. So what makes an object recognizable as a tomato versus an apple? Especially if there are similarities between the two objects that might muddy the interpretation like if the color palette is similar (lots of red)? And if the shape is similar (circular)? Between these two sets of paintings, I personally feel it is the stems and leaves since apples and tomatoes have different leaf shapes, stem shape.
Three Apples No. 02
The same setup as last time but I zoomed in a bit more by making the apples larger on my painting. The background ended up being a bit darker as well since I didn’t mix exactly the same color as last time. Sometimes that makes the colors feel so ephemeral. I don’t remember exactly how I mixed it, and I don’t end up mixing it exactly the same way twice.
